Mark Phelan was born in Berlin in 1975. He studied Fine Art at the University of East London (1994-1998) gaining a B.A. (Hons) in Painting/Printmaking. Mark now lives and works in Nottingham.
The technique of painting on to transparent sheeting arose from the artist's previous experience of various printmaking techniques. Washes of acrylic and enamel paint are layered onto one side of the perspex, with the top layer being applied first and working backwards from there.
The images of fallen idols and personal heroes are then viewed from the other side of the Perspex.
